  76.    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  77.    The information provided below is to help you start the program for 
  78.    your hardware configuration.  For more details about the operation of 
  79.    the program press the F1 (function) key once you have started the 
  80.    program.

  82.    Once installed (see below for installation procedure) DRAFT Choice is 
  83.    started from DOS using the command: 
  84.  
  85.     C:> DC /Option1/Option2/Option3/.....     [ENTER]

  87.    where Option1, Option2, etc.  are options specifying the type of 
  88.    memory to use, the type of graphics video adaptor, etc.  For a 
  89.    complete description of these options, please print and consult the 
  90.    on-disk user's manual.

  127.    Installation on Floppy or Hard Disk:  
  128.    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  129.    Although the program will work if installed on 360k diskettes, we 
  130.    recommend that the program is installed either on a hard disk, or a 
  131.    high density floppy diskette, since this will permit the help file, 
  132.    and other auxiliary files, to be available to the user.  
  133.  
  134.    *  If you Install and run DRAFT Choice from a floppy disk, without      
  135.    *  Expanded memory (EMS), or if the /NE command line switch is        
  136.    *  used, and you remove the DRAFT Choice program disk from  
  137.    *  the drive while the program is running, you will get an 
  138.    *  error message and will be instructed to re-insert the disk.
  139.    
  140.    If installing on 360k disks, you need to have at least two 360 
  141.    drives, e.g., A and B.  You cannot install the program on a 
  142.    computer with a single 360 K disk drive and no Hard Disk!  
  143.  
  144.   * Place the DRAFT Choice original diskette in drive A: (or B:)
  145.  
  146.   * Make sure the current logged drive is A: (Type A:, or B:, and 
  147.     press ENTER, if it is not).
  148.   
  149.   * Type INSTALL and press [ENTER].  Then, follow the simple on-screen 
  150.     instructions to install your copy of the program on the desired disk(s) 
  151.     and/or subdirectory.

  153.     Note: If you are installing on 360K floppy disks, you will 
  154.           need multiple blank formatted diskettes!

  157.    On-Disk Documentation
  158.    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  159.    The installation process extracts a file called DC20.MAN.  This is a 
  160.    ready-to-print formatted, User's manual for the program.  
  161.  
  162.    Following the installation, make sure that the DC20.MAN file is 
  163.    indeed on your default directory.  Then, to print this manual: 
  164.  
  165.    (1)  Make sure that the your printer is ON  and there is enough 
  166.         paper in it (the manual is about 100 pages).
  167.  
  168.    (2)  From the DOS prompt, type
  169.  
  170.         COPY DC20.MAN PRN and press [ENTER]
  171.  
  172.         Note that if your printer is connected to a SERIAL port,
  173.         then you need to use the command  COPY DC20.MAN COM1, or
  174.         COPY DC20.MAN COM2 (depending on which serial port your 
  175.         printer is connected to).

  179. A NOTE ON PLOTTING
  180. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  181. The maximum number of dots that can be handled by DRAFT Choice (when 
  182. plotting to a printer), is based on a 360 dpi and 13" max plot width (hex 
  183. density on 24-pin printers).  The string of bytes sent to the printer for 
  184. each line is preceded and followed by 2 bytes (4-bytes total) which are 
  185. needed by the program. 
  186.  
  187. If a user is trying to plot a 16" wide drawing on a 9-pin printer (high 
  188. density), the max number of dots sent is [240 dpi * 16"] + 4 = 3844 dots.  
  189. Some printer buffers, however, cannot handle any more that 3840 dots per 
  190. line and the results, on such printers, would be unpredictable.

  192. If the user wishes to make sure that such a printer buffer overflow will 
  193. not occur, in the example given above, then the width should be set to 
  194. something slightly less that 16" (e.g., 15.95 inches).

  197. A NOTE ON MACROS
  198. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  199. Please, note that macro sequences (Option, Macro) are not saved with the 
  200. drawing file they are created in.  In order to save the macro sequences 
  201. you have created, you need to save the configuration file (File, Config, 
  202. Save Config).  Then, whenever you re-start the program the macros are 
  203. available to you.

  207.           NEW FEATURES in Ver 2.0 (NOT IN THE MANUAL)
  208. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  209. 1.  A new toggle switch is available Options, Toggle, EXTENTS.  
  210.     If EXTENTS is OFF, then an Image, All command sets the viewing 
  211.     window based on the scale/drawing border.  If it is ON then Image, 
  212.     All sets the viewing window based on the calculated extents of 
  213.     the drawing elements. 
  214.  
  215. 2.  When File selection dialogs are displayed, a file may now be 
  216.     selected by quickly double clicking on the file name.
  217.  
  218. 3.  UNDO is no longer limited to Edit, Delete operations!  
  219.     Furthermore, multiple UNDOs are now possible.  Created/Modified 
  220.     elements are placed in an UNDO buffer.  By repeatedly selecting 
  221.     UNDO, you can now Un-Draw, Un-Move, Un-Delete and in general 
  222.     reverse any previous action.  When the UNDO buffer is full, new 
  223.     actions get added to the buffer, while the 'oldest' ones get 
  224.     eliminated.  The user may PURGE the UNDO buffer at any time.  
  225.     CAUTION:  When the UNDO buffer is purged, any operations prior 
  226.     to that point cannot be UNDONE! 
  227.  
  228. 4.  When entering RELATIVE coordinates, if a third coordinate (Z) is 
  229.     specified then X and Z are interpreted as isometric coordinates, 
  230.     based on the current ISO angle (default is 30 degrees).
  231.     
  232. 5.  The maximum dot line buffer was increased to 4680 in order to 
  233.     support hex density on 24-pin, wide carriage printers, i.e., max 
  234.     image width = 13" x 360 dpi = 4680 dots. 
  235.  
  236. 6.  When specifying hatching patterns, in the DC.PAT file, the 
  237.     horizontal and vertical displacement is indirectly, tied to the 
  238.     drawing units through the 'SPACE' parameter in the Option, Style, 
  239.     or Alter, Style sub-menus. 
  240.  
  241. 7.  A new option is available under Measure, Dimension, Setup.  This 
  242.     new option specifies that there will be no dimension line drawn 
  243.     and that the dimension will be placed parallel to the second end 
  244.     point specified.

  246. 8.  When importing VALUE files, if a third coordinate (Z) is specified 
  247.     then X and Z are interpreted as isometric coordinates, based on 
  248.     the current ISO angle (default is 30 degrees), and relative to the 
  249.     X=0, Y=0  origin.

  252.      Major New Features/Modifications in DRAFT Choice Ver 2.0a
  253. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  254. 1.  A modification was made to eliminate redundant SP0 commands 
  255.     while sending output to a plotter or when creating an HPGL 
  256.     file.  This should significantly reduce pen holder movement 
  257.     and reduce plotting time. 
  258.  
  259. 2.  The Array Volume command was expanded to support Spline, 
  260.     Bezier, Polygons and Tape object types (instead of only 
  261.     complex line types).
  262.  
  263. 3.  A modification was made so that now the AUTOLOAD.SYM symbol 
  264.     library (if one exists) is loaded automatically every time a 
  265.     File, New command is executed.
  266.  
  267. 4.  The /DCH= command line switch (to automatically load a 
  268.     drawing when the program is started) was re-enabled.
  269.  
  270. 5.  A modification was made to make use of the function keys, 
  271.     during drawing, available to the user.
  272.     
  273. 6.  The symbols currently loaded in RAM are now alphabetically 
  274.     sorted.  A Symbol now needs to be selected by highlighting 
  275.     the icon bar, instead of simply using a key letter, so that 
  276.     the Cancel Hot key (C) will always be accessible. 
  277.     
  278. 7.  The Freehand drawing command was modified as follows: 
  279.      
  280.     - The maximum number of vertices of the created 
  281.       polyline was increased from 100 to 200.
  282.  
  283.     - A new option variable, DRATE, was added to the 
  284.       Complex Setup menu.  This variable allows the user 
  285.       to specify the number of pixels that may be 
  286.       traversed before a new point is issued, (the default 
  287.       is two pixels). 
  288.  
  289. 8.  The color mapping was changed to result in visible function 
  290.     key display status on White/Grey mono EGA systems. 
  291.  
  292. 9.  The path for DC.PAT, DC.LIN files is now obtained from the 
  293.     DOS command line (just like the DC.PCX file), i.e., they are 
  294.     not automatically assumed to be in the default directory.

  297.      Major New Features/Modifications in DRAFT Choice Ver 2.0b

  299. 1.  A modification was made so that the path specification for 
  300.     Virtual Memory (/VP=) must have a trailing backslash '\' to 
  301.     eliminate ambiguity.

  303. 2.  A new command line switch was implemented (/DR) which causes 
  304.     the destination of all copied entities to be the current, 
  305.     active layer (both for the Copy and the Array command).
  306.     
  307. 3.  A new test was implemented to make certain that the space 
  308.     requested for virtual memory is available on the specified 
  309.     drive.  If not, the number of virtual pages is adjusted 
  310.     accordingly.
  311.  
  312. 4.  A modification was made to reset the selection flag, 
  313.     if an Xtend operation was cancelled after the first line had 
  314.     already been selected (Item could not be re-selected).
  315.  
  316. 5.  A modification was made to the HPGL import module to 
  317.     correct PU, PD, and PA sequencing problems.
  318.  
  319. 6.  A correction was made to the Area calculation module so that 
  320.     when the units are changed, the calculated area is appropriately 
  321.     adjusted.
  322.  
  323. 7.  The HPGL module was enhanced to correctly treat files 
  324.     containing the SC command without any arguments.  A correction 
  325.     was also made to Y scaling based on the SYMIN parameter.
  326.  
  327. 8.  A modification was made to allow the Break command to correctly 
  328.     operate on bezier curves.
  329.  
  330. 9.  A modification was made so that the prompt for a reference 
  331.     point is bypassed if the local scaling flag is ON.
  332.  
  333. 10. A modification was made to make sure that SI units flag would 
  334.     not be bypassed when a File, New command was issued.
  335.  
  336. 11. A new command line was implemented (/ET) that bypasses the 
  337.     code to disable the mouse driver calls for enhanced video,
  338.     and allow mouse divers with SVGA support to operate in their 
  339.     native resolution.

  341. 22. The HPGL import module was enhanced to permit multiple, command 
  342.     delimited coordinates in the PD command.
  343.  
  344. 13. A correction was made to the macro command processor to avoid 
  345.     a problem that would result in the first choice being 
  346.     automatically selected when a Symbol, USE (SU) macro was 
  347.     issued.  (This problem would also occur with other macros that were
  348.     supposed to leave the user in a suspended state in order to make a 
  349.     selection).

  351. 14. A new dialog window was implemented to allow the user to 
  352.     reverse the image when saving to a PCX file.
  353.  
  354. 15. The PIC file module was enhanced so that it now supports the 
  355.     colors associated with the PIC file.  Furthermore, the text 
  356.     associated with the PIC file is now saved in the appropriate 
  357.     layers.

  359. 16. Hatch pattern spacing is now retained both when exporting and 
  360.     importing PIC files.
